Instafriday

Happy Friday! Gosh, this week has flown by. It is amazing to me how much I can get done when I'm not busy all the time with all that working nonsense!

I picked Scott, Susan and Jen up in this cool little town on the Mississippi River just south of Dubuque. It was called St. Donatus- or St. Doughnuts as I had misread it. It was seriously cute, like a blast from the past. Susan and Jen said it reminded them of a little German village on the Rhine and then they continued to discuss a biking vacation in Germany. Wouldn't that be fun? I'd be hanging out in the biergarten for sure. :o)

Yesterday Michael and I had our day of summer fun, starting with library time. I've been having great luck picking fun books lately and so we went to get some more. I love having a big ol' bag of library books to choose from every night. We also were there for the book sale and scored on some really nice hardback library books for $1.  We also got some Usborne board books for $.50 and left with only doing about $6 worth of damage- about all Michael could handle with the shopping.

We then headed to the holy grail of parks- Michael has been talking about this park since the day his aunt Denise took him there. It is actually really close to the library but you have to wind through the residential neighborhoods to find it. Luckily with some conferencing with my sister and google maps, I was able to deliver for Michael. He had a blast and it really was a fun playground! He kept saying he wanted to go to the playground with the "big red slide" and boy, was it big!

After naps yesterday we headed up to Ames to play at the Ames Aquatic Center. It is such a fun pool and Michael did a great job this year. I think being a little taller, stronger, and braver helped him have more fun and gave me less worries about him. We did go over the rules for about 10 minutes in the car on the way so he could tell them back to me, "no running, stay in the kids area, stay by mom". Luckily we had no incidents even though I had his life jacket with us just in case I felt like he needed it.

We met our friends Anne and her two girls and they are so sweet and cute. Michael and Maggie had a great time together which is good because I really hope they get married someday. :o)

I tried to go incognito at the park with my hair back and big sunglasses but I was still spotted by two students and their families from school. They were all like, "Hey! Mrs. Kundel??" like they were surprised I don't live and sleep in the band room. Isn't that so typical of kids? I was happy to see them out and about enjoying their summer just as much as I am.

That's it for today! Have a great weekend!

  1. I can't wait for my boy to be big enough to help with our garden!

The teacher comment cracks me up. My husband works with 3 different high schools now (and used to teach 7th grade) so we often see kids he has taught. They always seem confused to see him - and to see that he has a wife and kid!
