A couple picures of Scampy

I took this funny picture of Scampy the other day and I had to share it!

He's smiling! :o) Say cheese!

We've had some geese making a stop at our pond lately-Scampy has been enjoying watching them fly over and land in the water!

You know it's bad when...

....you have dreams about the people whose blogs you check.

Last night I had a dream I ran into John from thisyounghouse.com at a party.
I said, "where's Sherry??"

And also this party was at their house, but in Iowa, not in whatever state they live in. And their house was way huger than it appears on their blog, with like secret bathrooms and things.

Weird.

I need some new hobbies...at least need to stop checking my blogroll so often!!

Oscars Recap

Unfortunately I did not catch all of the Oscars last night (due to my obsession with Big Love on HBO-more on that later), but I did watch some and spent a huge chunk of time perusing people.com for some great photos.

First of all, I thought Tina Fey looked awesome! I'm used to seeing her a schlumpy Liz Lemon on 30 Rock, so this was a nice change!

I also caught Hugh Jackman's opening musical number. I really like him! It reminded me of when he hosted the Tony awards a few years back and made Sarah Jessica Parker come on stage and dance with him. And yes, he did deliver again!

The following are some photos I found on people.com...

I thought Seth Rogan looked good. I like him!

I loved this guy in Twilight but this....not really doing it for me. How does he look so creepy?

And Emilie Hirsh is just a cutie-I had to post this.

Note to self: see Milk.

Alright folks, that's it for my feeble Oscar's update!

Target Markdown Schedule

Over Christmas, I scored a ton of great stuff at Target at marked down prices. Luckily, I was off on break so I had hours of free time each day to visit the 3 targets in a 20 mile radius Linkof my house. But, I found this handy schedule on afullcup.com that lists the Target markdown schedule.

Year-round: (note: this may vary from store to store, but this is the general rule)

Monday -- Infants department, Kids clothing and Electronics (maybe food also)

Tuesday -- Women's clothing, Domestics

Wednesday -- Men's clothing, Garden, Toys, Health and Beauty

Thursday -- Lingerie, Shoes, Housewares, Sporting Goods, Luggage

Friday -- Cosmetics, Hardware, Auto, Home Improvement and Jewelry

Holidays:

All holidays except Christmas follow the 3-3-2 rule:

The first 3 days after the holiday are 50% off.
The next 3 days are 75% off.
The next 2 days are 90%.
After that it goes to salvage.

Valentines 3-3-2

Easter 3-3-2

4th of July 3-3-2 (since it's always on July 4, the schedule stays the same)
July 5 = 50% off
July 8 = 75% off
July 10 = 90% off

Halloween(since it's always on Oct. 31, the schedule stays the same)

Nov 1st = 50% off
Nov 4th = 75% off
Nov 7th = 90% off

Thanksgiving 3-3-2

Which reminds me...I need to get to Target to see if they have any Valentine's stuff left!

Dear Micheal

For those of you who watched the Office last week....

Scott played this joke on my computer

(might need to enlarge in new window-also, any tips for posting a large picture would be helpful!)

25 things

PSA: this is a repost from facebook!

1. I've wanted to be a band director ever since I was in high school. I realized that with time and commitment, you can achieve success...and this was a good lesson to learn early on in my high school days!

2. However, I first wanted to teach 5-12 band! Eek! I do however still have fleeting thoughts of doing it, since some of my students are awesome and I hate to give them away to the next teacher! :o(

3. I was a cheerleader in high school.

4. I was also in a bowling league in high school.

5. My freshman college room mate introduced me to some fine things in life-such as the music of The Doors. And I just recently watched the movie about the Doors and ...wow! Weird.

6. When I first met Scott, I was initially attracted to him because he was so tall! :o)

7. Although when I first initially met Scott,he kept playing while people were talking...my number one pet peeve!! It's even posted in my band room-no playing while I am talking!!!

8. I am very bad at remembering song lyrics.

9. Two of my favorite movies are Dances with Wolves and Robin Hood Prince of Thieves...and yes, I think Kevin Costner is cool.

10. One of my favorite workout songs is "Since You've Been Gone" by Kelly Clarkson

11. I also enjoy listening to classical music/orchestral music scores while working out.

12. Sometimes my students act just like me or do something exactly like I would and it is a little freaky but cool at the same time

13. I enjoy traveling, but I hate flying.

14. I would love to do a cross country road trip- I love riding in the car (especially when I'm not driving!).

15. My main instrument is flute but I played trumpet in the marching band in college. If asked, my students would say I play the bagpipes.

16. Every time I go on a trip, I have to have an itinerary of things I want to do.

17. I am an NPR addict.

18. My favorite website is thepioneerwoman.com and it makes me want to move to Montana with my rancher husband, homeschool my 4 kids, and still be fabulous.

19. My favorite store is Target. Sometimes for fun I just wander around for a long time. In second place is browsing target.com.

20. I love cats, especially baby kitties!

21. I love gardening, because every day something is different and new. I can't wait until spring! (although I've been keeping my new collection of indoor plants alive until then!)

22. When I read a book, I can't put it down until I finish it. My parents used to have to force me to stop reading at night so I would go to sleep.

23. My favorite TV show is Big Love...and yes, it is about a polygamist Mormon Family.

24. I hate driving fast and I never pass anyone on hwy 17 for fear of getting in a head on collision. So, often times I am late for school because I've been going about 45 mph behind a old farmer in his truck. But then, sometimes I will be driving under the speed limit when there is no one in front of me either.

25. When I first started school at ISU I thought the marching band was so weird because everyone knew each other and they were all friends with each other. I swore I was only going to do it for one year....but then I turned into one of those weirdos who knew everyone and was friends with everyone in band, too! :o) And now I have lots of nice memories (and friends!) from the experience!

Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! I hope you had a special day with your sweetheart, or just a special day in general!

My day started out with a quick trip to the mall for Scott's last minute gift.

I put together a gift basket of all his favorite things-a new ISU shirt, a new hat for skiing, new socks, hot tamales, and trail mix. I think he really liked it! :o)

Then, it was time for my present! Scott let me choose between a digital SLR camera a digital video camera. So I chose....

This super sweet video camera! And, it's in HD and so easy to use. Only 5 buttons! Yay!

Stay tuned for some videos of my kitty, because that is really that is exciting around here.

The best news is that the video camera will be so easy to use on my new....

Mac book!! Well, actually it isn't mine, it is my new school computer. But, it is pretty sweet and I do get to take it home with me (even over the summer!).

To personalize my case I tied some pretty pink ribbon on the handle--just perfect for Valentine's Day!

How was your Valentine's Day?

ISU bball recap

I know this is my second post on ISU bball, but after the win last night there were just a couple of things I need to get off my chest.

First of all, Colorado set the record for all time lowest scoring in a half. 9 points. By one dude!

Yikes.

Second of all, can I just say that I love this guy?

I hope Craig Brackins sticks around for another year to play with us, but if he goes pro I will be happy to watch him at whatever team he is on. I would probably marry him if he wasn't 19. Just kidding...I really don't know if that is how old he is or not, and plus, I'm already married. :o)

Thirdly, can I just say...I also really like this guy:

Charles Boozer. He has been playing really well off the bench lately and I like it!

I also like his older brother, Carlos Boozer...who happened to have his very own superbowl commercial!

Here is a screenshot of it:

So cute. Here is a link to the video.

Also spotted at the game last night were two pep band members who have considerably better hair than I did when I was in pep band.

Such babies. Ahh...the good ol days!

check out dmregister.com for more photos!

Did you see this?

I am not usually a Dateline NBC watcher, but I caught the end of it last night after I was done with my weep-fest during the Biggest Loser.

All I can say is...wow. What a life, what a woman. No further comment.

Did anyone else see this? Comments?

Blast from the past

A few days ago a friend posted this photo on another friend's facebook

Nice, right? What a blast from the past! My college roomates-aka The Hyland Hotties.

So I started browsing through the flickr set and I found some real gems.

These were from my not doing my hair phase in college, and wearing athletic shorts in public phase.

Yikes.

Also apparently the winning basketball games at Hilton phase....

A February Rarity

Check it out, folks:

Yes, it is 55 degrees in Iowa in February!

Almost all the snow around our house is melted and for about 2 days, it has felt like spring.

No socks, no coat, no worries! :o)

Of course I realize this will make it that much worse when it actually snows again...probably next week!

A tip

Here is an extra handy tip we learned tonight.

If you are having an electrician work on your basement, make sure he doesn't do anything to the outlet your deep freeze uses.

It will be bad.

Very, very bad.

(p.s., not me in this photo...thank you, clipart.com!)

Basement Update

It's been a while since I've posted about our basement, so here it is!

Are you ready to descend the stairs of terror??

Here is the room looking from the stairs down the room

FYI, that paper on the floor was originally red. Now? White.
So messy!

Here is a close up of the far end (looking towards the other end)

Here is the family room:

And the Media Room

Yes, we do have a hook up for our Wii sensor. The components will be in the back of the room and run through the walls so we don't have a bunch of junk up front.

Also today Scott got all the trim moved from the garage to the basement. Thus begins the varnishing!

How beautiful is this piece of maple?

Our doors were luckily already downstairs. They are HEAVY!
They are the same as upstairs. Good thing, because I love them.

Speaking of trim...

Any ideas of what to do with our huge pile of scraps. Crafty girls? Where are ya?

Before you go, here is a shot of my favorite room in the basement.

I love the tree windows and the ledge that goes all the way around. Which now is occupied by lots of crap. Seriously, people!

And now....to haunt your dreams...the storage room of doom!!!

Pretty scary, huh?

Hopefully it doesn't haunt your dreams like it does mine.

Aretha's Hat

Did you love Aretha Franklin's hat during President Obama's Inaguration?

Well, you can be it's facebook friend!

11,269 people have become official Facebook fans of Aretha Franklin's Inauguration Hat. That has to be the most popular hat on Facebook.

You can get your own for about 400 clams or one with a smaller bow for about 179.

But...what? smaller bow? You gotta be kidding me!

But you might have to wait awhile as Mr. Song, it's creator, is backed up for about 4 weeks!

Hurry! :o)

Weekend Wrapup

Hey everyone,

First of all, can I just say that I love this guy?

Yep, Kurt Warner of the Arizona Cardinals. And....perhaps Iowa's greatest professional athlete?

There is lots of arguments about it, that I won't go into at this time-but I sure like the guy!

Here are my reasons why:
1. He is from Iowa
2. Like every Iowan, he was employed by HyVee (just like me!)
3. He played for the Iowa Barnstormers which just recently came back to the area
4. He is a Christian
5. He has a huge family (7 kids!) and looks pretty darn good for 37!

You can also check out kurtwarner.org for more info!

Anyway, Superbowl Sunday was a fun time had with friends and lots of food. Susie is an awesome host! :o)

And now...here are my favorite superbowl ads!

1. "Fetch"

mostly because of this cute guy:

2. Coca Cola with Peter and the Wolf

You gotta love an ad rocking the classical music!

3. Conan's Budweiser ad

Now there is another dude that I love!

What were your favorite ads from the big game?
