Weekend Fun!

It was a beautiful weekend and we had a great time with friends!

We took the boat out on Saturday and it was very nice out! Lots of sunshine...and we all have the sunburns in weird places to prove it!

Here is my handsome hubby cruising in his boat! Check out those waves in the water...it was super choppy thanks to the idiot patrol of tubers who were out that day. Thanks a lot guys!!

That afternoon/evening we had a fun game of wiffleball. It was a beautiful night!

What a great weekend! Now...time to rest! :o)

21 weeks!

Baby gulps down several ounces of amniotic fluid every day, both for hydration and nutrition and to practice swallowing and digesting. And, these days, those taste buds actually work! Studies show that after birth, babies are most interested in tastes they've already experienced through amniotic fluid. Meaning, think about what you want your future child to eat as you prepare your own lunch.

Yikes...babies are most interested in tastes they've already experienced? I better start working on eating healthier!

This is an interesting fruit for this week because I feel like baby is really growing but it is still pretty small. Less than a pound! So tiny! Just think about how much a pound is...a pound of hamburger for example. This baby has lots of growing to do!

5 days of school left!

Today I signed my contract for next year. I will be working 1/4 time which will be about 10 hours a week. I am looking forward to staying at my same school and also staying home with baby! It should be a nice mix. Now...about that daycare situation! I have a couple of leads but I guess we have until January (hopefully when I'll go back after leave) to decide on a place!

Big Ultrasound today!

Today Scott and I extended our holiday weekend by taking an extra day off for our big ultrasound!

But first, we had to take the obligatory picture!

The ultrasound went well and everything looks great! Here are a couple pictures they gave us:

Here is a profile of the face and then a fist and a foot.

Here is a 4D of the baby's face...it looks a little weird. It is amazing how skinny the baby is (only 15 oz!!)

This picture looks a little weird, but it is to show you how bunched up the baby was in there! The legs and arms are right up by the head. So squished!

20 weeks!

Baby is a cantaloupe!

I can't believe I am 20 weeks already-half way done!

No new changes on the pregnancy front, but have started to experience the lovely heartburn. It doesn't even matter what I eat, I still get it! :o(

Good thing I bought a huge thing of TUMS yesterday at the store!

Basement Update

Our carpenter has been here several nights this week and we have lots of improvements down in the basement!

All the doors are hung and some are trimmed. Scott is getting ready to stain a new batch of trim this weekend in one of the bedrooms.

Also, we have upper cabinets in the kitchen area! :o) They are much bigger than we expected, and a little different than our upstairs ones. I can't wait until we get the glass doors put on!

The wine rack is the middle part up above and we will have a small flat panel tv mounted in the blank space. Either that or a large picture of mirror of some sort! :o)

The progress has gotten me so excited I have begun to think about decor for the nursery! I know, weird huh? I think I like this as a theme:
I added this crib bumper and crib skirt to my registry as well as some sheets that match. So it will be brown, cream, maybe some green and yellow also for colors.

Now the real question is...should I paint??

19 weeks

Today is the official start of the 19th week! Wow! I am almost half done!! My baby is the size of a mango! (how big is a mango, anyway?)

They are throwing a shower for me at school on June 1st since I won't be back next year. When they told me this I about had a panic attack about registering for baby. Registering??? What?? How I am supposed to know what a baby needs? What do new babies wear in October? gahh!!

So, lots of stress! I don't even know how I am going to do the nursery yet! I will have to post pictures of our basement progress, because when that is done I can start on the nursery. I should probably think about ordering a crib sometime in the near future also. Okay...now I am getting a head of myself!

Now...off to pick up my craigslist purchase! A lot of 15 cloth diapers! Call me crazy if you want, but I think I am on board with this!

18 Weeks

This week I had my 18 week appointment!

Your fetus has become amazingly mobile (at least compared to you), passing the hours yawning, hiccuping, rolling, twisting, kicking, punching, sucking and swallowing. And, baby's finally big enough that you'll be able to feel those movements soon.

Things are looking good and I've schedule the *big* ultrasound for the day after Memorial Day. This will actually be later than 20 weeks but I didn't say anything about doing it earlier so I guess it is fine!

I've been feeling great and have had lots of energy to get things done in the yard!

p.s., happy Mother's Day! Now, time to go call my mom! :o)

*edit note: this "fruit" is actually a sweet potato! Yum...haha!*

I hosted a shower for my friend Kelly last Saturday in Iowa City.

Our room was beautiful! Not to mention, it was also a gorgeous spring day.

Here is the bride to be!

We had a great time! Congrats Kelly!

Good Things

Despite my crazy week (and a total tearfest on Wednesday), I have been having a great day! So...I decided I would share the good things with you!

1. My students are totally, totally awesome. Some are playing better than the students I hear at the middle school. This is the furthest progress we have made in a year ever! I also credit my student teacher for his help in this as we can get a lot more kids in for lessons during the day. It is very fun to see my students enjoying music, their instruments, and getting geared up for their future in 7th grade band.(Don't worry...the picture is clipart-no actual students pictured)

2. Ellis Hobbs. This former ISU player is coming back to get his degree next weekend. He is about to start his 3rd season in the NFL and is making about $2 million a year, but yet he promised his mom he would finish college and he has done it! What a great example for student-athletes everywhere! (and good press for ISU!)

3.Tulips! Mine have finally started blooming! Spring is here!

4. Thai food! My husband is taking me out for dinner tonight. Let's hope it is not too spicy so I don't get heartburn. I swear I got heartburn this morning after eating a tangelo! And p.s., since when do I eat exotic fruits?? Pregnancy is weird.
