Happy First week of September! I have a feeling this month is just going to fly by with football games and busy times at school. I am looking forward to October to celebrating my baby's 4th (!!) birthday, our big marching band performance on the 5th, and the return of fall.
This past weekend we had a Cyclone game but we didn't head up to Ames until after lunch so Michael and I took our free morning and had a little fun time together. We started off with some donuts at "the donut store" aka Krispy Kreme and then went to the library to check out some books. You can tell school is in session because I had a fine ( I hate that!) but it is so hard to get to the library when we are inconsistent on our days going. I should just make it a point to go on Saturday mornings that we are home. Does anyone else struggle with this? Am I the only bad book lender?
Anyway, it was so great to have some 1 on 1 time with my little guy. It really filled up my heart after an exhausting (but good) week at school.
Speaking of exhausted....I know just how you feel, Scampy.
We also soaked up the last bit of summer with a pool play day at the new Ankeny pool. We met up with our friends and had a great time despite two words you never want to hear at a pool: fecal contamination. *shudder* Luckily we had fun going down the slides, jumping in the big pool, and going on the lazy river.
Since it was a long weekend, we headed over to Newton on Monday night to catch the double feature of Planes and Despicable Me 2 at the drive in theater. We had been waiting all summer for Planes to play there so we knew we had to jump on the chance to go. We got there nice and early and had lots of time to kill which was fun but unnecessary as there were only probably 15 cars there. We made some rookie mistakes such as: not dressing warm enough, not bringing pillows or blankets, and not bringing enough food (but we bought pizza and pop from the snack stand). We watched the second feature from the comfort of our front seats and headed out about half way through because it was getting late. It was a great experience and we will definitely be doing it much more next summer!
We made jello at home after Michael spotted it at Walmart and I wouldn't let him buy it. Every 5 minutes he would ask me if it "was all Jello-ey yet?".
He was so excited about the Jello...a funny thing!
In other news, I am so happy and grateful it is Friday. Every day at school is kicking my butt and I hope it gets easier soon. We have a great crop of 5th graders starting band and I am excited to show them where music can take them in life. Things are busy and the days fly so I try to soak up the moments when I can.
Have a great weekend!
ummm ROSE! We were at the drive in that night! Spud JUST told me that he thought he saw Scott when I said that you guy were there that night (in which he did not tell me at the theater because he saw muscatine plates or something.) We were one of the 15 cars! I'm so sad we missed you when we were SO SO close!
