For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food,
For love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.

--Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)

I spent much of Thanksgiving trying to pretend that it wasn't any special day and that I wasn't without my precious baby boy. I thought of him all day and how thankful we are for being blessed with him.

Michael and I did a quick trip to our favorite park in the morning and I spent some time just reflecting and being thankful. Being thankful for the beautiful weather and the sunshine on my face.

Being thankful for my awesome little boy and his joyous spirit.

Being thankful for visions of peace and protective mommy elk.
(she later charged at the fence because we were too close to her sweet baby--yikes!)

....and being thankful for self portraits that graciously auto focus on the rock instead of me. :o)
We had a great meal at our friend's house to celebrate the holiday. Everything was so awesome and I felt so guilty I didn't cook anything.

Michael was so happy to have a friend just his age to hang with for the afternoon. They were so funny together running around with their toys and pushing their noses up to the tv.

It was a beautiful fall day. 60 degrees and sunny on Thanksgiving? I'll take it.

We are thankful for many things.

I hope your holiday was full of peace of love.

  1. Hi Rose, I wanted to let you know I am so sorry for your loss. Your sweet baby Trace is absolutely precious and it saddens me to the core to read about this. I have a 4 month old baby girl and since I read about this a few days ago I can't stop thinking about you, about Trace, and about your family. I pray for your strength and healing and can't even imagine your pain. We lost my brother at a young age but now that I'm a mother I can't imagine losing my baby. Please know that I'm thinking about you and that strangers are praying for you.

  2. I'm glad you got to be with good friends and didn't have to worry about cooking, it is ok to let people take care of you. I admire your ability to be thankful despite your heavy heart. You will be in my thoughts this week, as always.

  3. I thought of you often on Thursday. I'm glad you were able to grab parts of the day to be thankful and that you were well taken care of by friends!

  4. This is my first time visiting your blog... We have a mutual friend in Darcy. I just want to say that I am so very sorry for the loss of your beautiful baby Trace. (((hugs))) I too know what it is like to suffer loss-- my son Christian passed away over 3 years ago, just a couple months short of his 4th birthday. I am glad that you are giving thanks even in your sorrow. Please know that I am praying for you and your family tonight.
