Summer Week Four

Week four of summer was slightly less busy than last week. I think we were worn out!

On Monday we played catch up and rested at home. The kids rescued a tiny turtle from our street. He was so cute! Michael has a few friends in the neighborhood he has been playing with and I am glad they can play outside and ride bikes together. It helps everyone's sanity a little.

Playing by the pond- what a beautiful day!

Also this week poor Anna was feeling under the weather. She took naps every day and was complaining of a tummy ache. It was a good cue for us to take it easy. Brynn loved the quiet time with no one bothering her while she played and she kept herself busy all day. It was so cute. I just love when I see the kids playing nicely...and playing nicely together is a bonus.

On Tuesday we ran our errands and had piano lessons. The girls got a haircut!

On Thursday Trail Day, we took our bikes to Terra Park and rode the trail there. We got a little turned around and had to improvise to get back to our car but we made it work. I still get very nervous about the girls on their bikes and usually, it comes out with me yelling. However, sometimes my children have a bad habit of not listening to me and it can be dangerous in situations when it matters. This is something we work on daily.

However, we recovered with a takeout lunch picnic from Panera Bread and playing on the playground and in the water. It was a nice day!

On Friday we headed to the zoo for our field trip. It was supposed to be rainy in the afternoon so I figured we would go early and beat it. We only got rained on once and then it quit! We just did a quick spin around the zoo because Michael was complaining of his stomach hurting. It was still nice to get out of the house for a bit.

Friday night, Scott invited some of his fraternity brothers out for an evening get together. One friend was passing through on his way from Chicago to South Dakota and the other had brought his daughter to try and wakeboard with Scott. Scott took the opportunity to invite some other local friends and they had a really good time. It was more people (and kids) than I had prepared for (bad hostess alert) but I think the social time did Scott good. They fished outside and hung out on the patio after dark so I think it was probably okay for social distancing.

The girls were happy that their friend Allie came to visit again. They are just the same age and are so similar. The girls played nicely and I kept them entertained since I think the big boys' conversation was not wife friendly and I didn't want to cramp their style. :)

On Saturday, Michael had his long-postponed piano recital and he did so well. We had worked hard on him feeling the beat to his songs so it flowed well and it was really paid off. He was also the only one who had his songs memorized! I was really proud of him and I am glad piano is something we can do together. His teacher is such a gem and reminds me what a blessing good teachers are in the lives of our students. I am glad we could keep going with lessons through quarantine, a little bit of normalcy helps everyone.

We celebrated afterwards with ice cream at our favorite spot- the creamery in Polk City. YUM! They only had one scoop left of my favorite flavor, so we were lucky. We'll have to make sure and take Scott one of these days. Afterwards we joined everyone on the boat and enjoyed some fun in the sun. It was also one of the fastest we got the boat of the lake, especially for a Saturday. I even drove the boat up on the trailer for Scott! Woo hoo!

Also, I showered, did my hair, put on makeup, jewelry, and nice clothes. If that doesn't deserve a selfie, I am not sure what does. I don't think I've blown dry my hair in months! It was great to feel more like myself for a day.

That's a wrap on June! On to July! :)
